Acupuncture Aids Fertility After Loss

After experiencing an early pregnancy loss, I felt like my body had betrayed me. Despite following a healthy lifestyle and conscientiously avoiding environmental hazards, I struggled to get pregnant again in the first few months afterward. The irregular periods were a constant reminder of the loss and made me feel like there was something fundamentally wrong with me.

As a health practitioner interested in Integrative Medicine and training in medical acupuncture, I realized that Traditional Chinese Medicine could play a beneficial role in women's health and fertility. Specifically, I turned to acupuncture and herbal supplements aiming to regulate my cycles and prepare my body for pregnancy. It was more than just physical healing; it was a way to reconnect with my body and mind after a traumatic experience. After several acupuncture sessions, I was able to face the reality that my body simply was not ready because of the mental stress I was experiencing at the time. I recognized that I was doing too many things that were taxing my "spleen qi" and I needed to slow down.

Gradually, I began to feel a sense of peace and hope. I realized that my body was capable of healing and that I didn't need to beat myself up over the loss. Acupuncture helped me overcome my limiting beliefs about my fertility, and I'm so grateful that it played a role in ultimately bringing our rainbow baby into the world.

This experience gave me the opportunity to become more knowledgeable about preconception care, fertility, and hormonal health. I've learned the importance of self-care, stress management, and seeking support from others. While the loss was incredibly painful, it has ultimately made me stronger and more resilient. I'm grateful for the journey and the lessons I've learned along the way.

Naturopathy Offers Hope for Hashimoto's

When I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's (an autoimmune thyroid condition), my endocrinologist at that time said there was nothing I could do. I had a gut feeling that there was something I could do, so I sought out an alternative medicine practitioner. I found a naturopathic doctor who helped me see there was hope. To this day, I still have my thyroid and have put my antibodies back into the normal range.

As an experienced dentist, I've always been fascinated by how alternative medicine can complement traditional practices. A few years ago, I faced significant anxiety about public speaking during patient education seminars. To address this fear, I turned to mindfulness meditation as an alternative practice. Initially skeptical about its effectiveness, I committed to daily sessions focused on breathing techniques and visualization.

Over time, mindfulness helped me develop greater awareness of my thoughts and feelings surrounding public speaking. Somatic Therapy Relieves Chronic Hip Pain

Standing at work in the ED, I noticed my right hip start to ache. It felt like there was something stuck, maybe even twisted. I couldn't shake it loose. I had already sworn off the Motrin I got into the habit of taking every day for the normal aches and pains of a 50-year-old. There must be something I could do in the meantime. For two years, I ignored my body. The pain was just enough to let you know it was there.

I was introduced to a woman in my office one day. She had come for a consultation. As we spoke, she introduced me to somatic therapy. I was excited and definitely wanted to learn more.

After cold plunging, sauna therapy, sound bed therapy, and somatic exercise and treatments, my pain was finally completely gone. Not once did I have to revert to taking any medications.
